VANESSA BELL ARMSTRONG
Captures hearts in EMI Gospel's
"Walking Miracle" Debut
The epic songstress has
returned front and center
stage with her ultramodern
awe-inspiring "Walking
Miracle" CD with a blends
of traditional and
contemporary up-tempos.
The title song is smooth and sleek with
Armstrong's clear and catchy vocals. It is a
relatable song for everyone that knows the
healing power of God. "They were praying for
my son (who was recently diagnosed with the
debilitating disease MS) one Sunday night and
the song just came to me", describes,
Armstrong. "He's a walking miracle."
Jazz favorite Cassandra Wilson
bewitches with "Loverly", a
tantalizing, rhythmically driven
collection of jazz standards. She
is joined by Marvin Sewell on
"I decided to dig back into standards
I love them that's how I honed my
craft", CASSANDRA WILSON says -
"Loverly" set for Release June 10th
guitar; Jason Moran on piano; Herlin Riley on
drums, Lekan Babalola on percussion and
Lonnie Plaxico on bass, in stores June 10th.
"Jason is my favorite piano player. It always
seems like he plays as if he's falling off a cliff.
Babalola is from Lagos, Nigeria, his job was to
find that West African drumming pattern under-
pining tunes that weren't straight ahead or
ballads", adds Wilson, who rented a house
and turned it in to a recording studio in her
hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, and then
set up shop with her band from noon to
midnight for six days to capture the relaxed
nature for each session. When Wilson was
mixing the album in New Orleans, the
phenomenally talented trumpeter Nicholas
Payton dropped by and improvised over a
section. Bassist Reginald Veal accompanies
Wilson on her molasses-slow delivery of "The
Very Thought of You', on Blue Note Records.

New York Tenor Saxophonist
JD Allen Steps Up to the Plate
With Significant Purpose and
Intent in Jazz CD "I AM I AM"
JD Allen, tenor saxophonist
left his native Detroit in 1993
and moved to New York at the
invitation of famed singer Betty
Carter. He's also worked with
Ron Carter and Wallace Roney to name a
few. Allen’s mature sax sound is character-
ized by idiosyncrasy and charm. The New
York Times wrote "A tenor saxophonist with
an enigmatic, elegant and hard-driving style".
Allen’s superb new trio album "I Am I Am" is
the work of a driven 35-year-old determined
to keep his career on the right track. John
Coltrane and Wayne Shorter are obvious
influences, but Allen builds upon each icon’s
recognized elegance by using clever accents
culled from throughout the jazz diaspora and
making seductive use of space, with his
bandmates bassist Gregg August and
drummer Rudy Royston, on Sunnyside
Records, released April 22, 2008.

Joshua Allen
August 8, 2008 -
Joshua Allen,
who exhibited
remarkable
grace and agility
during the dance
competition,
could not have
been more
humble about
the whole affair.
Winning prize
money of
$250,000 as well
as a role in the
film Step Up 3D,
a tearful Allen
remarked, ‘Don’t let anyone tell you that
you can’t do something.’
But as many of the judges kept saying,
Joshua showed the most heart and that’s
what inspired America to vote.
Really, even if he wasn’t your first choice,
how could you not be happy for the guy?
Talent aside, he appears to be a genuine
sweetheart, someone you could really root
for.
So You Think You Can Dance is an
American dance reality show and
competition that is broadcast on the Fox
Network in the U.S. and Japan. The series

auditions leading to the discovery of the
next big star. The show was created by
